San Yi Finger Painting Society (SYFPS) commemorated it’s 30th Anniversary through an art exhibition held at the Wisma Kebudayaan Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM), Kuala Lumpur on October 7, 2007. Malaysia’s Deputy Minister-of-Tourism, YB Dato’ Donald Lim Siang Chai was the Guest-of-Honour for the event.
In commemoration of September 21 “International Day of Peace”, student of Singapore Management University (SMU) and SMU Organizing committee organized the “Adopt-a-Peace-Pillar” campaign, where 10 pillars in SMU were designed with themes relating to peace.
On September 21, SSA co-organized the “International Day of Peace” Observance event with Mercy Relief, Jamiyah Singapore, Young Sikh Association, Inter-Religious Organization to commemorate the International Day of Peace.
In appreciation of SGS’s continued support to the annual Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival since 2004, the Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival 2007 Organizing Committee commended SGI President Ikeda on September 15 at the Official opening and Light-Up ceremony at Chinatown.
SSA contributed to a World Record Breaking event where the world’s largest needlework, measuring 20.1 metres by 13.8 metres (277 square metres), was unveiled on September 9.
On August 9, SSA participated in Singapore’s 42nd National Day Parade where some 30,000 audience was present to watch the performance at the brand new floating stage at the Marina Bay. This year marks the organization’s 22th year of participation.
SSA Youth Division member Marcu Chia was awarded the Lee Kuan Yew Award for All Round Excellence. This award recognizes individuals who have excelled in and out of the classroom. A total of 93 awards were given out by Minister of State for Education Gan Kim Yong at the annual ceremony on August 22.
From August 4 to 10, two SSA representatives Ms Josephine Poon, Chairman of SSA Education Committee and Mrs Angelina Tay, Principal of Soka Kindergarten, were invited for an educational exchange with St Lawrence High School in India.
SSA partners NGO by Lien Aid, UNICEF to support an integrated sanitation and water project for 600 families in Andoung, Phnom Penh. Local authorities such as the Ministry of Rural Development – Development of Rural Health Care, Phnom Penh Municipality, Phnom Penh Rural Development were also involved in this sanitation project in Cambodia.
On August 2, some 1000 students and teachers at Hwa Chong Institution watched the screening of “A Quiet Revolution” during their Economics Lecture.
