On July 20, some 300 students and teachers of Damai Secondary School watched the award winning documentary “Another Way of Seeing Things” as part of their educational segment in commemoration of Racial Harmony Day.
SSA celebrates her 40th years of founding since 1967 through the form of a Youth Festival held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on July 7. Performances that evening included a string of cultural performances from the various SSA culture groups.
On July 1, some 2,500 SSA Student Division members and their friends participated in the community event of MILK Run, an annual event that involves the community in the anti-delinquency cause and promote the understanding of youth issues. The Guest of Honour for this event was DPM S Jayakumar.
On June 21, SSA Vice General Director Mr Chan Heng Yuen, Education Programme Committee Chairperson Ms Josephine Phoon and Peace Committee member Mr Lim Jih Yang attended the official opening of the seminar “Role of Community Leaders Towards Promoting The Culture of Durable and Lasting Peace” held at the Al Malik Faisal Hall of the Islamic Centre Jamiyah.
SSA participated in the World Book Fair 2007 held at the Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre from May 25 to June 3 this year.
SGI President Ikeda’s children animation titled, “Winds of Victory”, was screened at the local Bukit Merah Community Library on May 19.
On May 5 SSA presented the SSA Friendship Award to two distinguished friends whom SSA deeply cherished. They are Syed Hassan Al-Attas, Iman of Ba’alwie Mosque, and Madam Yan Choon Lian, Director of Dance Ensemble of Singapore.
A set of stamps with the new orchid hybrid Dendrobium Kaneko Ikeda was recently printed by Singapore Post (SingPost). SSA collaborated with SingPost to print and design three sets of local stamps which comes in denominations of 25 cents, 60 cents, 70 cents, S$1.
On April 29, about 30 SSA youths performed at the Kwong Wai Shiu (KWS) Hospital Charity Walkathon held to raise funds for their annual operating expenses. The event took place at MacRitchie Park where members of the public participated in the 3.2 km morning walk.
