SSA was invited by the Child Care Division of Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) to host a learning journey visit on 23 September 2011 at the Soka Kindergarten (SK) for a group of 31 educators who were participating in the MCYS’ Child Care Seminar 2011 themed “Celebrating Opportunities: Raising Professionalism in Early Years”. Through the visit, the seminar organiser aimed to provide the educators an insight to the programmes, curriculum and pedagogical approaches of various early childhood educational institutions.
For the first 4 days, K1 students experienced the SK Culture Week and were introduced to each of the diverse mix of culture that makes Singapore a cosmopolis. The children eagerly learnt about one another’s culture through food, dance, music, calligraphy, customs and practices of various ethnic groups. The festive mood in the school culminated on 5 August when the school celebrated National Day with everyone decked in red and merrily sang and danced to familiar national songs.
