To raise the level of awareness about sustainable development among the teachers and students of the National University of Singapore (NUS), enabling more to further understand about the efforts and contributions of Soka Gakkai International and the Earth Charter Initiative in this area, and to also spread its key message that “It starts with one”, the Student Division group in NUS (NUSSD) collaborated with the Design and Environment Club (DE Club) of the school to hold the “Seeds of Hope: Visions of sustainability, steps toward change” exhibition at the school’s Central Forum for two days.

The school vacation was a time for teachers to unwind and put aside their marking pens, and for a group of 68 educators from the SSA Educators Group, it was also a time to meet for a rejuvenating one-day Educators Group Training Course.
Two distinguished guests from humanitarian organisation Mercy Relief joined the joyous occasion of the 80th Anniversary Meeting commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Soka Gakkai’s founding, held on 17 November 2010 at the SSA Headquarters. In his congratulatory speech, Mercy Relief Company Secretary Satwant Singh praised SSA members for their vigorous display of love and commitment. Mercy Relief Chairman T K Udairam then presented a “Token of True Friendship” from Mercy Relief to SSA, which was received by SSA General Director Ong Bon Chai.
On August 11 2010, the newly appointed president of the Inter-religious Organisation (IRO) of Singapore, Mr Tan Thiam Lye, BBM paid a courtesy visit to the Singapore Soka Association Headquarters and conversed with SSA General Director Mr Ong Bon Chai and SSA representatives. Mr Tan is also concurrently the chairman of the Taoist Federation (Singapore), which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. He will helm the IRO, the inter-religious body promoting inter-religious harmony in Singapore, for a one-year term from 2010 to 2011.
