Dream, Blossom, Inspire – Soka Kindergarten Celebrates 20th Anniversary

Soka Kindergarten (SK) celebrated her 20th Anniversary on August 31 with the 330 students and their families, and 500 alumna. Alumnus Tang Qi Sheng of the first cohort contributed the theme song titled “Dream, Blossom, Inspire” that was also the theme for the celebration.

SK Founder Dr Daisaku Ikeda, in his message, urges the children to have “hearts as strong as the cub of the lion king”; to be undefeated no matter how great the difficulties they may face; and to have many good friends where they could play and study together.

The first ever publication of Soka Kindergarten students, “Together We Grow” was launched on the occasion. The bilingual compilation of short stories and rhymes originated from the children, guided and facilitated by their teachers. Alumnus Gena Wong contributed the cover design, while the illustrations were drawn by the children. Guest of honour, Dr Audrey Lim, senior lecturer of Early Childhood and Special Needs Department at NIE, who launched the book, was pleasantly surprised by the rich content of the book.

To mark the anniversary and the annual Kindness Day, the children produced digital art pieces related to the theme. From the proceeds of the sale of these artworks, $2,542.05 was donated to Mercy Relief, in support of the relief efforts for the earthquake victims in Ganshu, China.
