Golden Lion Dance Troupe Clinched Top Prize at National Wushu Championships

SSA Golden Lion Dance Troupe clinched top prize at the 2006 National Wushu (Martial Arts) Championships held from August 15 to 20 in Singapore. They emerged first in the group category for External styles (Waijiaquan) out of the 16 groups that participated.

This is the first gold victory for the SSA Golden Lion Dance Troup at the annual Martial Arts Competition organised by Singapore National Wushu (Martial Arts) Federation. In all, the Golden Lion Dance Troupe participated in a total of 10 categories — three group and seven individual events.

Besides the top prize in External styles, they also emerged second runner-up in another category of External styles with weapons (Waijia Jitidao). Some of the Individual achievements included: Wee Ming Liang, second runner-up in Double Broadsword (Shuangdao) and fourth position in Ground-Prone Fist/Boxing (Ditangquan); Wee Ming Sheng, fifth position in Three Section Staff (Sanjiegun); Ho Kai Leong fifth position in Through-the-Back Fist/Boxing (Tongbeiquan); and Lau Xin Ye, fifth position in Southern single-edged sword (Nandao).
