On August 30, SSA Vice-General Director and Chairman of SSA Interfaith Committee Mr Chan Heng Yuen, shared on the basic underpinnings of Nichiren Buddhism and its spirit of contribution and service at the inaugural interfaith forum “From Tolerance to Acceptance” organized by Tampines West Inter-Racial and Religious Confidence Circle (IRCC).
Held at the Tampines West Community Club, this event is sponsored by Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, with the aim of promoting deeper understanding and network of trust amongst religious groups and communities in the Tampines West arena. More than 100 people including residents and students gathered at the forum.
Guest of Honour Mr Masagos Zulkifli, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Education and Home Affairs, MP for Tampines GRC and Adviser to Tampines GROs, delivered the opening speech.
“Tolerance is more than just being fair, it is about appreciation, respect and understanding,” shared one of the speakers, Associate Professor Syed Farid Alatas from the NUS Department of Malay Studies,
The panel of speakers also include Mr Laurence Wee, Executive Director of Presbyterian Community Services.
Some 20 SSA Future Division members livened up the event with an upbeat hip hop dance. There were also performances by Jamiyah Children’s Home and an Indian dance presented by the Tampines West CC.
