On April 29, about 30 SSA youths performed at the Kwong Wai Shiu (KWS) Hospital Charity Walkathon held to raise funds for their annual operating expenses. The event took place at MacRitchie Park where members of the public participated in the 3.2 km morning walk.
KWS Chairman of the Board of Trustess presented SSA with a certificate of appreciation at the event. Established in 1910, KWS is one of the pioneer charitable organisations in Singapore, serving the sick and poor regardless of race and religion.
On April 15, three SSA culture groups (namely the Young Women Sunflower Dance Ensemble, Young Men Golden Lion Dance Troupe, Young Women Fife and Drum Corps) performed at a Ministerial community event, where Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, met with the residents at the Tampines Central Park. Minister for National Development Mr Mah Bow Tan, and other grassroots leaders accompanied Minister Yaacob during his community walkabout where some 500 residents gathered.
On April 12, SSA Soka Chorus participated in a musical concert held at the Victoria Concert Hall. Organised by the Oriental Art Culture Centre, this concert showcases various choral groups and compositions that further brought about the appreciation of arts and strengthening of friendships among the local choral scene.
