On June 28, 2014, 32 members of the SGS’s Rainbow Chinese Orchestra (RCO) joined the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) and more than 120 other performing groups from various schools, clan associations, community clubs and organisations for Our People, Our Music 2014—a history-making musical extravaganza held at the newly opened Singapore Sports Hub. The concert featured the largest ever Chinese orchestra to perform, comprising 3,345 musicians supported by a 1,212-strong choir.
The event’s guest-of-honour was Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who was among an excited audience of 30,000 people who got to enjoy the specially selected and arranged music pieces, which depicted Singapore’s passion and dreams.
Reverberations from the concert seemed to emanate beyond Singapore’s shores, carrying a bold, inspiring message—though small in size, great things can still be achieved with a bold vision and the tenacity to see through its realisation. Regardless of one’s age, gender, race, or instrument, everyone has a unique role to play in creating beautiful music together!
On behalf of SSA General Director Tay Eng Kiat received a plaque from Ms Yeoh Chee Yan, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth.
