The month of August must have been a memorable one for the children and staff of Soka Kindergarten (SK)!
For the first 4 days, K1 students experienced the SK Culture Week and were introduced to each of the diverse mix of culture that makes Singapore a cosmopolis. The children eagerly learnt about one another’s culture through food, dance, music, calligraphy, customs and practices of various ethnic groups. The festive mood in the school culminated on 5 August when the school celebrated National Day with everyone decked in red and merrily sang and danced to familiar national songs.
On the same day, the school also commemorated the 10th Anniversary of the SK Post Office by launching the new Post Office! Invited guest Mrs Jean Ng, Director of Singapore Philatelic Museum Board unveiled the new signboard for the Post Office, signifying a new beginning for the facility. In her speech, Mrs Sng shared that the Post Office is an unique feature of the school and is “specially constructed to to bring a great learning experience to the children of Soka” and urged the children to have a memorable experience in the Post Office!
Revamped and relocated to Level 2, the new facility now has 3 new acrylic mailboxes specially made for three levels of students and a mini museum where some items used through the past 10 years are displayed.
Numerous letters have passed through the Post Office since its inception 10 years ago. The school hopes that the children can continue to learn from the process of operating the Post Office and that visitors can relive their memories of writing and receiving letters of friendship and love.
