On 20 March, over 1,000 people participated in the online virtual Soka Women Lecture, titled “Collaborating to solve the Climate Crisis”. This lecture – the fourth in its series since 2019, was held in collaboration with National University of Singapore’s (NUS) Centre for Nature-based Climate Solutions, in support of the National Environmental Agency’s Clean and Green Singapore campaign.
Professor Koh Lian Pin, director at the NUS Centre for Nature-based Climate Solutions, shares that a very simple yet important solution is to collaborate with nature. Through cherishing our interconnected and interdependent relationship, and harnessing the power of our environment, we can protect, restore and sustainably manage our ecosystems and biodiversity. This was followed by injected with a lively question and answer session where the audience raised many questions pertaining to what they can do to be part of the climate solution.
Gemma Lee Pei Shan, a SGS Women Division and an educator as well, shares that:
“Some of the climate issues are very apparent and our future generation will be the one who has to go through them if we do not take care of the Earth well. Nature and human beings are interconnected. It is a relevant and serious topic, yet it was presented in a heart-warming manner. Thank you for organising the lecture!”
Mandy Mok, a fellow SGS Women Division also reflects that:
“From this lecture, we learnt that nature plays an important role in our lives and we can encourage others to join in this action of individual transformation to protect the Earth. I also enjoy the cultural performances which are very aligned with the theme of the lecture.”
Ng Shi Jie, a SGS Young Women Division shared that:
“This lecture was relevant to me because I’ve been interested to find out what I can do to slow down climate change. With more awareness of this issue, it has deepened my sense of conviction to persevere in my little actions towards change.
