SSA Youth Participates in Youth Mentor Summit 2008

Some 650 SSA Youth Division members performed at the 43rd National Day Parade held at the Marina Bay floating platform on August 9.
On July 29, Chairman of the Indian Council of Gandhian Studies, Dr Neelakanta Radhakrishnan presented “Orienting Education for the Sake of Peace” at the Fourth SSA Student Peace Lecture.
In commemoration of Earth Day on April 22, the international exhibition “Seeds of Change: The Earth Charter and Human Potential” opens at the Pasir Ris Park at the Earth Day events organized by the National Parks Board.
The First Youth for Peace Interfaith Symposium was held at the Singapore Expo Hall 4 on March 16.
Through the various collaborations between the Singapore Management University (SMU) and SSA since 2005, much rapport and trust has been established between the two organizations. As such, the invitation of establishing the SSA-Ikeda Peace Award within the SMU, comes in recognition of SGS’s invaluable contribution to SMU and to society at large.
Some 200 participants of SSA Student Division dressed as lion fishes, crabs, little fishes, seaweeds, and corals in the item titled “Ocean of Harmony” at Chingay on 16 February 2008.
The third SSA Student Peace Lecture was held at the Singapore Management University (SMU) on November 21. Newspapers Columnist, Advisor and Former President of Malaysian Aids Council, Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir was the distinguished speaker sharing to the crowd of some 250 who packed the Ngee Ann Kongsi Auditorium. Chairing the lecture was Prof Kirpal Singh from SMU, Associate Professor of English Literature and Creative Thinking.
SSA celebrates her 40th years of founding since 1967 through the form of a Youth Festival held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on July 7. Performances that evening included a string of cultural performances from the various SSA culture groups.
On July 1, some 2,500 SSA Student Division members and their friends participated in the community event of MILK Run, an annual event that involves the community in the anti-delinquency cause and promote the understanding of youth issues. The Guest of Honour for this event was DPM S Jayakumar.
