A Kaneko Orchid Greenhouse and Garden opens at the Okinawa Training Centre in Onna-son, Okinawa, Japan on November 18.
The Prefectural Chief of the Training Centre, Mr Yasuda said in his opening speech, “We shall endeavour to spread the Dendrobium Kaneko Ikeda’s fragrance of hope and friendship into the world, from this land of Okinawa.”
The people of Okinawa had suffered terribly during the times of World War II. It was a place that saw the fiercest fighting during the war. The Okinawa Training Centre of the Soka Gakkai International (SGI) stands where the Missile Base Camp once stood. It was SGI President Daisaku Ikeda’s intention to have the landmark remain as a constant reminder of the foolishness of mankind to embark on warfare.
Okinawa-SGI members are determined to launch their peace mission from the land of greatest suffering. The Dendrobium Kaneko Ikeda orchids have become the ambassador of peace and friendship for them.
