Soka Volunteers Group supports SPD Ability Walk 2018 to advocate inclusiveness

On 27 August, the new book ‘Daisaku Ikeda: Champion of Hope and Happiness” by Dr N. Radhakrishnan was launched at the Singapore Management University. Guest of Honour was Ms Sun Xueling, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of National Development.
Some 13,500 youths from diverse social backgrounds, faiths and ethnic groups came together and pledged to be the transformative source of hope in society over the weekend of 25 and 26 August 2018.
This year marks the 33rd year of SGS’s participation in the National Day Parade (NDP). NDP 2018 in celebration of Singapore’s 53rd birthday, was held on August 9 at Marina Bay Floating Platform, with the theme “We are Singapore”.
On 26 July 2018, 22 volunteer befrienders from the Soka Volunteers Group (SVG) accompanied 20 elderlies from SPD@Toa Payoh on an outing to the Waterway Point shopping mall in Punggol.
On 30 June 2018, the SSA Student Division (SD) held the second Youth for Peace Symposium at the SSA Headquarters with close to 300 youths in attendance consisting of SD members, their friends and guests from interfaith organisations.
On May 6 and 20, forty SSA volunteers spent two meaningful afternoons with forty senior residents from the St. Andrew’s Nursing Home (Henderson), “SANH”, engaging them over dialogues and personal makeovers based on the theme “60’s A-go-go Fashion”.
On April 25, SSA hosted 26 staff and volunteers from Assyafaah Mosque at the SSA Headquarters as part of their Learning Journey, to continuously discover and learn best practices in programmes that serve the community.
In its third year, The Annual Wee Kim Wee-Soka International Seminar on Global Peace and Understanding was held on April 4 and 5, in the Administration Building of the Singapore Management University (SMU).
Grooving to the upbeat fusion music of k-pop, popular song and drum beat, 43 dancers from the Soka Youth Dance Crew performed in the finale segment of Chingay 2018 held over two nights on February 23 and 24. The dazzling street procession started its parade route from the F1 Pit Building and ended at the Marina Bay Floating Platform.
